# Professor David R. Clarke

## Welcome to the Clarke Group!

David Clarke Group, September 29, 2021. We say goodbye to Giovanni Pisaturo (in the middle) who has just completed his thesis work here as part of his Master's degree from ETH Zurich. He will be joining a small start-up in Zurich devoted to the manufacture of quantum dot displays. It's been fun to have him here despite all the restrictions due to Covid!

## New Job Opening

**Postdoctoral Fellow in Residual Stress Analysis of Ceramics and Glasses**

We invite applicants for a post-doctoral fellow position to work with Professor David Clarke on the measurement of stresses in oxide materials, formed in coatings by high-temperature oxidation, in glasses and related materials. We welcome applications from recent PhD graduates who are interested in these fields, especially those who bring new skills or perspective to bear on the research in Professor Clarke’s laboratory.

Ultrafast high-temperature sintering (UHS) has recently been demonstrated for the rapid densification of
materials. Its high heating rates (104 ◦C min−1) and temperature capabilities (up to 3000 ◦C) enable rapid
densification and high synthesis throughput...

The microstructures of yttria-stabilized-zirconia thermal-barrier-coatings (YSZ-TBC) are complex through their thermal cycles, while the metastable 8YSZ could be created as the durable TBC. With a combination of XRD, SEM, and TEM analyses, we observe a...
